Interior Design Associate Degrees
Associate Degree Programs for Interior Design Students
Associate degree programs are an excellent option for someone interested in interior design. This degree option offers the courses you need to start your career in this ever growing field. You could secure a position as an interior designer, interior decorator, visual merchandiser or an assistant commercial design assistant. You could even start your own company designing for a variety or client needs. This degree is often the best choice as it provides more training than a certificate program without all the extra requirements needed for a bachelor’s degree. Unless your goal is to work with a top rated firm or in the upper end of the commercial design filed, the associate degree can get you where you want to go in interior design.
-Associate degrees in Interior Design allow you to get an education in just a couple of years, perhaps even more quickly less if you have taken courses previously.
-An associate degree will provide you with all the necessary knowledge about the field.
-Most careers in Interior Design do not require a degree beyond the associate. It can also serve as the basis for continuing education.
But What Will I Learn With an Associate Degree?
In an Interior Design associate degree program, you will learn about the field and develop the skills you need to take a plain, nondescript space and make it beautiful and functional. You will learn about the elements of color choice and object placement. You will also learn about the history of the field and those related to it.
Students enter the program with varying levels of experience. Regardless of that level, all students will complete the program with the skills they need to enter the field. Some of the concepts addressed in coursework and filed practice include:
-Fundamentals of design
-Design process
-Residential design
-Universal design
-History
-3-D design
-Contract design
-Client relations
What Kind of Career Can I Find?
Interior design is a broad profession that employs both creativity and technical knowledge to create environments that are beautiful and functional. The designer must have skills and knowledge about aesthetics as well as regulatory codes. The field incorporates elements of many disciplines including architecture, public relations, psychology and art. People skills are also important to help ensure that clients are satisfied and comfortable with the final product. Environmental sustainability is increasingly become an important part of the process as well.
An associate degree in Interior Design is not simply a precursor to a career only attainable after further training. Holders of this degree can leave their program and become working professionals. Careers can be found as interior designers or decorators. You may go to work as some kind of visual merchandiser. Or you may become an assistant to those working at the highest level. You could be working with residential clients or on public spaces such as shopping malls, hotels or even hospitals. Only the top tier of the industry is reserved for those with more advanced degrees.
An associate degree will allow you to work within the dynamic field of Interior Design. The United States Department of Labor predicts that this field will be growing and expanding at a pace similar with that of other growing industries over the next several years. The earning potential varies according to geographic location, years of experience, reputation development and employer. It is definitely a career with strong earning potential without a mandatory bachelor’s degree. Whatever your goals, an associate degree can help you reach them.
